The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdiqadir Mohamed Noor, has confirmed that high-ranking officers of the Danab army have been caught red-handed in corruption against food intended for one battalion of the Danab army.
The Minister of Defense said this in an interview given to Universal TV, saying that this action took place last month, and the officers involved in that action have been imprisoned for five months.
He said that the food was bought in the markets.
“It is a shame for the government to steal something. “Whoever is found in court will be brought to justice and will be held accountable,” said the minister.
However, the United States government said it will re-evaluate its relationship and cooperation with the Danab army.
A US official told Reuters that Washington is taking all allegations of corruption seriously.
