The Office of the Attorney General has granted presidential pardon to 116 prisoners in Hamar Central Prison and MBCC Prison in Afgooye.
The prisoners who were released under the amnesty of the president were said to have been imprisoned for various minor crimes, and some of them were said to have completed most of their sentences.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Farhan Hussein Mohamed who spoke publicly to the released prisoners urged them to take advantage of the opportunity given to them and thanked the President of the Federal Government Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
“We are telling you that the amnesty you have been granted by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on the occasion of the Holy Month, everyone is required not to go back to what they were accused of,” said Deputy Prosecutor Farhan Hussein.
The prisoners who were freed by the presidential pardon were mostly very young people who were accused of minor crimes.
Finally, the Deputy Prosecutor said that the prisoners who were released from the prisons they were in have received free medical services, education, and other places to play.
