The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today delivered a speech at the 6th Round of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which opened in Nairobi, Kenya.

The president said that Somalia is at the forefront of the countries most affected by climate change.

“Recently we came out of a drought that we had for 4 years in a row. Now the whole country is experiencing a level of heat that has not been seen before. All these issues are caused by climate change”, said the president in his speech at the conference.

The president pointed out that there is a need for plans and cooperation that lead to dealing with the effects of climate change, stressing that countries should have equal investment opportunities to deal with the problems of climate change.

“To manage well and protect the security of Somalia’s environment, as our government is committed to this matter, will ensure that our vast resources, including our sea, the rich land and the animals we describe, become an opportunity for employment. production, green energy and economic growth in our country and the entire Horn of Africa.” added the president.

President Hassan Sheikh who noted that our country is vulnerable to climate change, said that in order to deal with the strong impact of this, the Somali Government has prepared laws to protect the environment and plans to implement them.
