The Ethiopian government said that regional governments, especially those in East Africa, were aware of the agreement it entered into with Somaliland before it was signed on the first of this month.
The Security Adviser to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Redwan Hussein, according to Addis Standard, said that before the agreement was reached in October, diplomats were sent to East African countries to share the understanding between Somaliland and his country before it was signed.
Redwan Hussein said after that that the countries of the region were aware of the agreement, he said “The only thing that the countries of the region were not aware of was the recognition of Somaliland, the share of the plane that we are paying, and when President Bihi will come”. .
Redwan Hussein said that Somaliland has given him a military base and in return they recognize Somaliland as an independent country.
The Somaliland office in Ethiopia, which was previously called the Somaliland Mission to Ethiopia and the African Union, has now been changed to the Somaliland Embassy in Ethiopia, according to the representative of Somaliland in Ethiopia.
The Somali government has strongly opposed the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, explaining that its independence has been violated, and said that it will never accept the implementation of this agreement.
On the other hand, Somaliland, which 33 years ago unilaterally withdrew from the union that was the basis of the Somali Republic, and has been seeking recognition for a long time, sees this agreement as important for its cause.
