The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutteres, said that he spoke with the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, while listening to the concerns of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
United Nations Secretary Antonio Gutteres noted that the Security Council has repeated several times that it respects the territorial independence and unity of Somalia.
The secretary hoped that all parties would engage in effective peace talks and refrain from any actions that could escalate the situation.
The Presidency of Somalia said in a press release that President Hassan Sheikh shared with the Secretary of the United Nations the vision and policy of the Federal Government of Somalia which is based on good neighbourliness, cooperation and mutual respect.
The President said that the people and the government of Somalia will not accept the violation of their unity and governance.
In any case, the Somali government is holding a large protest in Mogadishu on Thursday against Ethiopia’s desire in the Somali Sea, sending a clear message to the Ethiopian government.
All government activities and educational institutions have been allowed to gather and express their feelings against any attempt by Ethiopia to invade the privacy of Somalia.
