The Somali National Army in operations against the Al-Shabaab group on the border between Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle regions presented to the media two of the traditional elders who were working with the group.
The names of the elders presented were Ali Maqane and Ahmed Ali Gadaf, who were in charge of Al-Shabaab gathering livestock in parts of the Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle regions.
The elders who surrendered to the federal government forces were among the elders who were working with Al-Shabaab in the areas of Eeldheer and Coosweyne in the Galgaduud region.
The surrender of these elders who were working with Al-Shabaab is coming, as recently the government forces and local people carried out an operation in Eeldheer area and arrested an officer of the Al-Shabaab group from that area.
In Galgaduud and Mudug regions, the operations against Al-Shabaab are still going on, while a large area has been cleared from the operation group by the government forces and local people.
