The United States government has issued a 10 million dollar reward for information on the whereabouts of Al-Shabaab leader, Ahmed Diriye Ali, also known as Abu Ubeyda.
The United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that Abu Ubeida is now the leader of Al-Shabaab, a position he held after the death of the former leader of Al-Shabaab, Ahmed Abdi Godane.
“During his leadership, the AS terrorists carried out attacks in Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Djibouti that caused the death of hundreds of people,” said the US State Department.
Before Godane was replaced, the United States said that Abu Ubeida worked in several positions in Al-Shabaab, including Godane’s assistant, the deputy governor of the Lower Jubba region of Somalia in 2008, and Al-Shabaab regional governor. Bay and Bakool, 2009.
In 2013, he was a senior adviser to Godane and worked in al-Shabaab’s Internal Affairs department.
On April 21, 2015, the U.S. State Department named Abu Ubayd an international adviser. and then placed a 6 million dollar bounty on his head.
