The Somali forces have said that they have succeeded in resisting an attack by al-Shabaab in the area of Cowswayne, which was recently evacuated.
According to a report in the media that speaks the language of the government, the army received intelligence that they destroyed a car carrying explosives.
The government said heavy fighting is still going on in Cowsane. The Al-Shabaab group claimed to have killed nearly 200 soldiers in this attack, and destroyed weapons and vehicles.
Al-Shabaab said they had set foot on the government army base in Cowswayne, although there was no independent information confirming their claim.
The Al-Shabaab attack came after the country’s armed forces liberated the town of Elbur in Galgaduud region, where Al-Shabaab had been holding for 10 years.
Recently, the government said that its operations are going on in a strategic manner, to prevent the army from suffering losses similar to the ones they have suffered in the past.
