The leaders of Somaliland’s opposition parties, Waddani and UCID, called on the public to support the military forces.
The presidential candidate of the Wadani Party, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, and the Chairman of the UCID Party, Faisal Ali Warabe, called on the people for unity.
“I propose to the people of Somaliland that they should be united, unite, and preserve the unity of their nation and protect its dignity,” said Mr. Irro.
He called on the military forces to unite, at the same time, he said that the military is the army that Somaliland stands for.
Irro said that the statement issued by the Ministry of Defense stating that the army has left Gojakade on the orders of the government cannot be an answer to the people, and the government needs to convince the people.
Governor Faisal also called on the people to stand by the military forces, calling on them to separate politics from the flag.
“Today it is necessary to stand by our forces. We are overcoming these recent events with unity. We must distinguish between the flag and the festival and the bad administration,” said Faisal.
Faisal also called on the troops to maintain their unity, after a dispute between some officers led to the capture of their bases in the east of Sool.
