Government and local forces have been deployed in Elbur District in Galgudud Region.

Reports from Galgaduud state that the federal government forces and local residents have recently taken control of Elbur district, after Al-Shabaab fighters left there.

Before the cooperating forces took control of Elbur district, a heavy battle took place in the airfield of that district, which caused casualties and injuries which have not yet been fully investigated.

The commander of Somalia’s infantry, General Ahmed Adan, confirmed to VOA that government and local forces have recently entered Elbur district in Galgaduud region.

The government forces and the local people are now reported to be carrying out operations in the neighborhoods of Elbur district to ensure the security of the district.

Elbur, a strategic city, was controlled by Al-Shabaab for 16 years and was their main command in the central regions.
