The president of the federal government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said that the Al-Shabaab group did not allow them to enter into talks with the Somali government.
President Hassan Sheikh, who was speaking during a questioning debate, said that the government had tried several times to call Al-Shabaab for dialogue, but he said that it was not possible.
“These men do not allow dialogue. The government of Somalia, with me as the president, has repeatedly said that there is amnesty, and that amnesty is still open.
The president said that there is no reason for the government to refuse to enter into dialogue with al-Shabaab, to stop the killings they are committing and what the government is doing to them.
Hassan Sheikh declared that his government welcomes anyone who renounces the principles of al-Shabaab. He promised that the government should give them their rights, just like other citizens.
The president defended that a person who defected from al-Shabaab could be given the job, saying that many people are suffering and oppressed by al-Shabaab.
