The African Union ATMIS command has issued a press release on the Al-Shabaab attack at dawn on their base in Buulo Mareer, 120 km southwest of Mogadishu.
ATMIS said Al-Shabaab attacked their base in an attack that used a vehicle filled with explosives and suicide bombers.
The ATMIS mission said that the battle that took place in the aviation section of ATMIS succeeded in preventing and defeating the Al-Shabaab attackers.
“ATMIS would like to assure the public and all other institutions in the country that everything is being done to control the situation,” said the ATMIS press release.
They said they are committed to fighting terrorism and will continue to work closely with the Federal Government of Somalia, member governments of the federation and other international partners.
ATMIS’ statement came after Al-Shabaab said they took over the ATMIS military base in Buulo Mareer town, saying they killed more than 137 Ugandan soldiers who were there.
