The Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC) announced that the final arrangements are underway for Somalia to be part of the EAC region.
Dr. Peter Muthuki said that a report from experts that established the status of the country and the conditions for approval, submitted their latest report to the leaders of the EAC member countries and soon the council will evaluate whether Somalia will officially join the EAC.
“The process of entering Somalia is ongoing, as the report is being prepared and shared with colleagues to give their opinion, now it is easy, which is the next step to submit the report to the EAC cabinet,” said Dr. Peter Muthuki.
He said this while talking to the press last night in Kampala.
The conditions for welcoming new countries include social acceptance, adherence to internationally accepted principles of good governance and the practice of law, respect for human rights, and participation in strengthening the integration of the East African region.
