The African Union Mission in Somalia (Atmis) said that the Somali government has handed over nine military bases, which means that the second phase of ATMIS reduction has been completed.

Seven of the nine ATMIS military bases were handed over on Monday at an event in Mogadishu, according to the ATMIS press release.

“The number of 3,000 soldiers and the transfer of the 7 military centers to be completed in Biyo Adale, Raga Ael, Parliament, the President’s House, Qorilow, and the airport in Kismayo is a sign of the transitional phase of Somalia’s security,” he said. said ATMIS news.

Alhaji Sarjoh Bah, the director of conflict management for political, peace and security issues of the African Union Commission, who spoke at the event in Mogadishu, said that the reduction is a great sign of the good vision of Somalia.

He said that the Somali security forces have shown courage and resilience to weaken Al Shabaab, which is part of the sustainability of the development of the security forces.

“Our collective efforts have enabled us to smoothly implement the reduction of 2,000 soldiers last year and, this month, 3,000 ATMIS soldiers, by handing over seven important bases,” said Bah.

He noted that the smooth transition was the result of a strong effort by the Atmis tripartite committee, the Somali government and the United Nations support office in Somalia.

He said that the African Union equally supports the implementation of the Somaliland Security Development Plan, which was recently approved in New York.
