Reports from the Eelbarde district of Bakool region say that a cargo plane had an accident at the Eelbarde airport in the early hours of today.

The plane that crashed was said to be carrying food to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), and the plane was carrying aid to the people of that district from Aden Adde airport in Mogadishu.

According to preliminary reports, the plane crash occurred after the plane had a malfunction and could not extend its legs during landing, and crashed into a building near the airport.

The manager of Elbarde district airport, Abdifitah Keydsane, told the media that the plane crashed outside the airport, and one of the people who was on the plane died in the accident.

The reports add that the person who died in the plane crash is the pilot of the plane, and the plane that crashed was accompanied by four people who were members of the WFP organization, who survived the accident.

There is no news from the Federal Government of Somalia regarding the plane crash that took place today at Elbarde District Airport in Bakool Region.
