The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, yesterday afternoon, where he was warmly welcomed.
The president of Galmudug administration, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor and other officials from the government councils welcomed the president at the airport in Dhusamareb.
The purpose of the Somali president’s trip to Dhusamareb was to speed up and complete the first phase of the operation against the Al-Shabaab group that is currently active in Galmudug administration areas.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is speeding up the efforts to rid the country of the Khawarij, today arrived in the city of Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug,” said a statement issued by the Somali Presidency.
President Hassan Sheikh spent two months in the city of Dhusamareeb leading the war against Al-Shabaab, and now it appears that the operations, which have been suspended for a while, are being resumed by the President of Somalia.
However, the country’s armed forces, with the help of local residents, dislodged Al-Shabaab from many districts and areas that the group had ruled for more than 10 years.
