The government of Somalia has chosen MP Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Aden to represent Somalia in the race for the chairman of the African Union Commission for the years 2025-2028.
The Somali government said that this step is part of strengthening its role in international and regional organizations.
MP Fowsiyo has previously served as the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia and Deputy Prime Minister in 2012/2013.
She has been a member of the Somali Parliament for more than ten years.
In 2022, she became the first Somali woman to participate in the Somali presidential race.
However, Somalia has never held this position since the year 2002 when it officially joined the African Union.
Five members succeeded him in the positions of the African Union Commission. And they are; Amara Essy (Ivory Coast), Alpha Oumar Konare (Mali), Jean Ping (Gabon), Nkosazana Diamini-Zuma (South Africa) and Musse Faki Mohamed (Chad).
