Somaliland, which responded to calls from organizations and governments regarding the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, said that these calls do not condemn the agreement.

Somaliland’s Information Minister Ali Mohamed Hassan (Ali Mareehaan), who gave a special interview to VOA Radio, said that the calls from the world are not against the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia.

“This is not the way to talk about it, most of them were diplomatic and cold, some of them called on the parties to calm down and calm the tension, like the one that came out of IGAD and the African Union, and we think that the United States is defending us. ” Said Minister Ali Marehan.

He said that this agreement is not the first agreement that Somaliland has entered into with foreign countries, but there are similar agreements such as the agreement for the construction of Berbera Port.

The agreement which stipulates that 20 kilometers of the Red Sea water will be leased from Ethiopia for 30 years, and that Ethiopia recognizes Somaliland and gives a stake in its airline company, has angered the Somali government.

Opposing demonstrations took place in the last two days in Hargeisa and Mogadishu, which were organized by the government of Somalia and the government of Somaliland.

Regional organizations such as the European Union and the Arab University have openly opposed the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, describing it as a violation of Ethiopia’s territorial integrity.
