The Somali government has announced the names of two al-Shabaab leaders who were killed in an attack in Mudug and Lower Shabelle.
A press release issued by the government said that two leaders named Umarani Malaq and Sabir were killed in the attack.
The first operation took place in an area called Nuun-Gare in Awdheegle district in the Lower Shabelle region, and Umrani Malaq Mohamed, who was the leader of Al-Shabaab in Barire area, was killed.
Also, the second leader, Sabir, who the government said was in charge of extorting money from farmers, was killed in the attack.
The second operation, which took place on the outskirts of Aad area in Mudug region, killed seven members of the al-Shabaab group, after targeting a meeting place, according to the Somali government.
These operations have come as al-Shabaab claimed that they have defeated the government forces in Mudug region, and they have presented pictures of what they say are the bodies of government soldiers and weapons that they said they have recovered from those battles.
