The people living in Baledweyne, Buulaburte and Jalalaqsi towns in Hiran region have started to independently repair the places that have been severely damaged by the floods of the Shabelle river recently.
The most severely damaged areas by the flood are the bridges in these three cities and highways.
Among the places that have received repairs are Nur Hawaad and Bundaweyn bridges in Baledweyne and Buulaburte district bridges, while the Jalalaqsi district bridges have not yet been repaired, which is feared to break.
The bridge known as Bundaweyn, which is a strategic bridge for the movement of Baledweyne neighborhoods, has been repaired by young volunteers, which has caused the bridge to be closed to traffic for 24 hours.
The Baledweyne Youth and Development Association is responsible for the repair of the Bridge known as the Bundaweyne Bridge, which was damaged by floodwaters.
“We are young people who work voluntarily and have committed themselves to work for the development of the city. We saw that the bridge was neglected and the water destroyed the old concrete structure that came out. If it was continued, it would have been completely destroyed. We put her in and now her fear has left us,” said Dadir Haji Ali, the chairman of Ishilqaam Baledweyne youth.
The bridge in Buulaburte district is one of the areas that were damaged by the flood and the bridge that connects the northern and southern regions of the country has been repaired. Al-Shabaab wanted to destroy the bridge last year in 2022.
