More information is available from a meeting that lasted several hours between the President of the Federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and members of the opposition politicians.
The president and some of these politicians who have previously held high positions in the government are said to have discussed many issues related to the political situation in the country, especially the issue of amending the country’s constitution.
Members of opposition politicians who attended the meeting include former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre, MP Abdirahman Abdishakur, and MP Abdiqadir Cosoble.
The most important thing that the two sides discussed is to complete the members of the national consultation forum whose decisions are unanimous, which means that Puntland is satisfied with the process of drafting the country’s constitution.
The two parties also agreed to amend the constitution through the process prescribed in Chapter 15 of the transitional constitution.
Preliminary reports received from the meeting say that a preliminary understanding was reached between the two sides on the issues they discussed, although there was no official news from the meeting.
At the conclusion of the two sides, it was also indicated that they agreed to appoint 10 MPs from the President’s side, and five MPs from the opposition side to hold further discussions.
