One of the injured crew members of a merchant ship hijacked by Somali pirates was successfully evacuated from the MV Ruen by the Indian Navy.
According to reports, the man, who was seriously injured and was one of the ship’s crew, was shot by the pirates during the hijacking operation.
The Indian Navy was able to secure the release of the injured sailor by holding talks with the pirate leaders.
He was taken to a port in Oman for basic medical care.
The MV Ruen is still in the hands of Somali pirates who hijacked it on December 14.
The ship is currently being held at a location in the far east coast of Puntland.
It is not yet known whether the pirates demanded ransom money as pirates have been known to do in the past.
