The President of the Federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh and his delegation arrived last night in Kambala, the capital of Uganda, where they were warmly welcomed by Ugandan government officials.

The President and his delegation, who departed from Mogadishu, will participate in an event in Kambala on Friday to formally sign Somalia’s membership of the East African Community (EAC).

It is also expected that President Hassan Sheikh during his stay in Uganda will have a special meeting with his counterpart Yoweri Museveni and they will discuss issues related to the strengthening and cooperation between the two governments.

The event taking place in Kampala will be attended by officials from the East African Community, who will sign that Somalia has officially joined this umbrella.

In the month of December, the government of Somalia achieved three important achievements, namely, joining the East African Community, the lifting of the arms embargo on Somalia for more than 30 years and the long-term debt owed to the government of Somalia was forgiven.
