The Puntland administration has called on the two houses of parliament of Somalia, not to be part of the amendment of the Constitution of the Federal Government of Somalia.
In a press release from the Puntland presidency, it was said that the leaders of the federal government of Somalia have political interests in amending the country’s constitution.
Puntland said that any amendment to the constitution could lead to political conflict.
“The Puntland government confirms that it will not be part of the implementation of any amendment to the Constitution without Puntland being part of it.” It was said in the press release from Garowe.
Puntland said that the leaders and institutions of the Federal Government do not have the power to change the system of the central government which is the President and the Prime Minister and the structure of the government which is established in the Constitution of the country.
This news from the presidency of Puntland has come at the same time as there is a strong dispute over the changes made by President Deni’s administration to the constitution of Puntland and the rules of elections.
As Deni accuses the federal government of issues related to the constitution, Puntland’s opposition accused Deni of changing his electoral interests into articles of the constitution.
