The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, who is the deputy of the United Nations, arrived in Dhusamareb.

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Atul Khare, who came to Somalia for a working visit.

They discussed issues related to military operations against al-Shabaab, reduction of ATMIS forces, and UNSOS support for ATMIS in Somalia.

A brief news report posted on the X of the Somali Presidency said that the President and the Assistant discussed issues including the fight against Al-Shabaab, and the support of the United Nations.

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) provides logistical support to the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the Somali Security Forces (SSF).

The UN Deputy Secretary General also met with the Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia, Souef Mohamed El-Amine.

The two officials discussed the reduction of ATMIS forces, the transition plan in Somalia and how to transfer DFS forces to security and other issues.

The official from the United Nations arrived when the second phase of ATMIS troop reduction plan was submitted to the United Nations.
