The director of the presidency of Somalia, Hussein Sheikh Mahmoud, has officially announced that he has resigned from his position since May 23, 2022.
In a post he wrote on his Facebook page, he said that he resigned from his position after he became more aware of the situation in South West Somalia and listened to the advice of the people and politicians from the South West region.
He said that he believes that the South West needs a leader who has the skills, knowledge, confidence, experience and national morals to lead the region to development in terms of security, politics, economy and society.
The director of the presidency said that he will continue to participate in the efforts of government building, especially in order for the South West to get a peaceful and democratic change.
He said that he needs the people of the South West to support him in leading the people of the South West to have leadership with equality, justice, talent and respect in all aspects.
However, Hussein Sheikh Mohamud, according to his speech and the information we are receiving, says that he is running for the position of the president of the South West, and this is the main reason why he resigned.
The South West presidential election is scheduled for January 2024, although the agreement of the National Consultative Council stipulates that the regional presidential elections will be held in the middle of the next year in 2024.
