The National Security Adviser to the President of Somalia, Hussein Macalin Mohamud revealed that the government of Somalia did not receive the necessary support from the ATMIS operation in the fight against al-Shabaab.

Professor Hussein Mohamud said the plan of the AMISOM mission changed to ATMIS was to carry out mobile attacks targeting Al-Shabaab. However, he pointed out that this did not happen.

The national security adviser said, the federal government has consulted and carried out mobile operations alone, which have liberated many areas of Hirshabeelle and Galmudug from the Al-Shabaab group.

“From April 2022, ATMIS requirements were to conduct mobile warfare. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. “Fortunately, the Government of Somalia has done its job without much support from ATMIS,” said the national security advisor to the President of Somalia.

Professor Hussein Mohamud said that the reason why the government signed the agreement with the neighboring governments is that it was not apparent that ATMIS was preparing for guerrilla warfare.

He said ATMIS claimed that they were stuck with bombers waiting for them in the world. Finally, he said that the government’s plan is for ATMIS to maintain the security of its locations, while the government liberates the country.
