The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, spoke on the phone with his counterpart, the re-elected President of Turkey, Rajab Dayib Erdogan.
President Hassan Sheikh congratulated Rajab Dayib Erdogan on his historic victory in the election that took place in Turkey last Sunday.
“The two presidents underlined the importance of the historical relationship between Somalia and Turkey and how to accelerate the past cooperation between the two countries,” said a statement from the Somali Embassy.
President Erdogan’s victory in the re-election was widely welcomed in Mogadishu and the regions of the country, and it is worth noting that there was a demonstration in Mogadishu in support of his re-election.
The Turkish government is one of the governments that supports the Somali government in the training of the country’s armed forces, and it has a large military base in Mogadishu.
