Electricity companies BECO, Muqdisho Power, and Blue Sky have announced an increase in electricity tariffs, citing a rise in fuel prices within the country as the reason.

In a press release issued today, October 25, 2026, the companies stated that the surge in fuel costs has impacted their ability to continue providing electricity services at previous rates.

The companies noted that fuel prices in Somalia have risen by more than 70 percent, compelling them to revise electricity tariffs in order to sustain the services they provide to the public.
According to the companies’ decision, electricity rates will increase by five cents per kilowatt-hour, effective today, October 25, 2026.

The companies emphasized that the increase in electricity tariffs is modest relative to the rise in fuel costs, noting that they took into account the difficult economic circumstances currently faced by the public.

They also expressed regret regarding the impact the fuel price hike has had on their customers, while expressing hope that the situation will improve in the near future. The rise in fuel prices comes at a time when companies report that the global market is experiencing an upward trend linked to conflicts in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

BECO, Muqdisho Power, and Blue Sky are among the companies that provide electricity services in Mogadishu and other parts of the country.
