The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, described the House of Representatives and local council elections in Galmudug and Hirshabelle as a significant step toward democracy and the advancement of the country’s electoral system.
The President noted that the people living in the Mudug, Galguduud, Hiiraan, and Middle Shabelle regions peacefully headed to the polling stations, describing the election day as a “positive milestone” in the history of Somalia’s democracy.
“Today is another day that marks a positive chapter in the history of our country’s democracy and progress,” the President said, commending the thousands of citizens who participated in the electoral process.
He stated that the public’s participation demonstrates the exercise of their constitutional right to vote, as well as their role in strengthening governance, democracy, and public representation.
The President also praised the Somali security forces, noting that they ensured the safety of polling stations and the public, thereby allowing the elections to take place in a peaceful and stable environment. According to the President, no issues were reported at the polling stations, as security forces effectively ensured safety throughout the electoral process.
He stated that these elections demonstrate the Somali people’s commitment to building inclusive governance, strengthening peace, and implementing a political process based on the will of the people.
The President also described the elections as a step toward reinforcing a democratic system based on direct elections.
