Somalia Requests to Increase Senior Positions in the Arab League.

The Somali Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative of Somalia to the Arab League, Ali Abdi Aware, has requested the Arab League to grant Somalia its share of senior positions and heads of delegations in the organization’s General Secretariat.

This request came during the ambassador’s meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, in Cairo, where they discussed strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the Arab League, and other matters of common interest.

The ambassador conveyed the congratulations of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, congratulating the Secretary-General on his new appointment, and expressed Somalia’s support for efforts to strengthen Arab cooperation.

The meeting also discussed the general situation in Somalia and the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance cooperation within the Arab League, in order to advance the common interests of Arab countries.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Arab League said that the organization attaches importance to supporting Somalia, and will consider requests submitted by Mogadishu, in order to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting ended with both sides expressing their desire to expand cooperation and coordinate joint activities during the next phase.
