Somali People’s Political Union Commends the Performance of the Somali National Disaster Management Authority

The Somali People’s Political Union has highly commended the efforts, capabilities and transparency shown by the leadership and officials of the Somali National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), who are constantly monitoring the humanitarian situations in the regions of the country, and working to protect and support the Somali people affected by drought, food shortages, floods and other natural disasters.
A statement from the Office of the Chairman of the Somali People’s Political Union stated that the Authority has shown remarkable efforts in delivering humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities, by conducting regular assessments of the drought, food shortages and the impact of climate change in the regions of the country.
The organization particularly commends the efforts of the Agency in delivering food aid and other essential items to the communities living in many areas affected by the drought, including various regions and districts of the country such as Gedo, Bay, Bakool, Hiran, Galgaduud, Mudug, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle, Juba, Banadir Region and other areas where there is humanitarian need. In addition, the Agency has made great efforts to coordinate the distribution of aid in collaboration with government agencies, regional and district administrations, United Nations agencies and humanitarian organizations.
The awareness campaigns conducted by the Agency throughout the country, which are aimed at educating the community on how to prevent the risks of floods, heavy rains and other natural disasters, in order to reduce the loss of life and property.
The Somali People’s Political Organization states that, despite the challenges faced by the Organization, including lack of funding and international support, it has demonstrated a tangible performance that reflects patriotism, responsibility and service to the Somali people.
Therefore, the Organization calls on the Federal Government of Somalia, the regional governments, friendly countries of Somalia, United Nations agencies, the African Union, the European Union and all donor agencies to increase humanitarian support to the Somali people, as reports from the Somali National Disaster Management Authority indicate that many regions are still facing food shortages, water shortages and less than expected rainfall, which has increased the need for urgent assistance.
Finally, the Somali People’s Political Organization encourages the Leadership and all staff of the Somali National Disaster Management Authority to redouble their national efforts to save the Somali people, wishing them success and continuous progress in fulfilling their national responsibilities to society.
