The Federal Government Council has appointed an interim chairman for the National Chamber of Commerce.

The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia has approved the appointment of Yasin Mahmoud Ibaar as the interim Chairman of the Somali Chamber of Commerce, dissolving the previous board of the institution.

The decision was made during the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre. According to a government press release, the new chairman has been tasked with preparing the procedure for the election and establishment of the new board of the Chamber of Commerce within two years.

The meeting also heard reports on the country’s security situation and the results of the National Audit Office’s audit for the years 2024 and 2025.

The Council of Ministers also approved several legislative proposals, procedures and international agreements, including a procedure for coordinating government messages during emergencies related to acts of terrorism, a legislative proposal for the establishment of the National Revenue Agency, and cooperation agreements between Somalia and Croatia and Saudi Arabia, as well as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In addition, the Council of Ministers approved Somalia’s accession to the Charter for the Establishment of the African Mineral Strategy Group and the Partnership for the Development of Key Minerals.

In terms of diplomatic appointments, the Council of Ministers promoted Shaafi Nur Alas Farah to the rank of ambassador, while Abdifitah Mohamed Ibrahim was appointed as the new ambassador.
