Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has accused the federal government of Somalia of trampling on the agreed constitution and undermining the federal system and state institutions.
In a speech at the July 1 event in Garowe, Deni said Somalia still faces political challenges stemming from the collapse of the central government, saying the hope of rebuilding a Somali state based on agreement and unity is now at risk.
The Puntland president accused the federal government of “abolishing the agreed constitution” and undermining the federal system and the independence of state institutions.
He also argued that the national army was being used for political gain, citing recent clashes in Mogadishu, which he said targeted politicians and traditional elders.
Deni said Puntland has always stood for the unity of Somalia and the preservation of the federal system.
Speaking about the news regarding the recruitment of federal forces in Puntland, he said that Puntland’s security is secure and that there is no need for foreign troops. He accused the federal government of trying to disrupt the development and stability of Puntland.
The Puntland President called on the people of Puntland to maintain their unity and be vigilant against what he described as “propaganda and plans to mislead the society.”
Deni also said that Puntland will continue to defend its security and protect the federal system, noting that its forces are dedicated to defending the people and areas of Puntland.
Meanwhile, the Puntland President accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of leading the country with a short-sighted political vision and deviating from the political agreements established in the federal government.
