International humanitarian organizations have called on international donors and aid agencies to urgently increase funding for Somalia and restore access to aid packages before the situation worsens.
The call comes after the organizations warned of a worsening humanitarian situation in Somalia, with millions of people facing food insecurity and acute malnutrition.
A joint statement by Save the Children International, World Vision International and Plan International said that nearly 6.5 million people are facing acute food insecurity, while more than 1.8 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition.
The organizations said the reduction in aid funding was putting Somalia at risk, as humanitarian needs continue to grow. According to the statement, the humanitarian response plan for Somalia has been reduced from an estimated $1.42 billion in 2025 to $852 million in 2026.
The agencies also said that women and children are the worst affected by the crisis, with displacement, disease, violence and lack of education increasing.
The coalition concluded that Somalia needs not only a pledge, but also urgent action, political support and urgent funding to prevent another humanitarian disaster.
