The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomed the Mogadishu talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and opposition parties, which took place from 13 to 15 May 2026.

A press release from the IGAD Secretary-General said the organization was “closely following” the outcome of the consultations and encouraged the continuation of the talks to resolve outstanding issues.

IGAD stressed that sustained political dialogue is essential to maintaining stability in Somalia, strengthening the democratic system and advancing state-building in the country.

“All Somali parties must seek solutions that strengthen national unity, public confidence and long-term stability,” the statement said.

The organization also reaffirmed its support for Somali-led efforts to promote an inclusive government, peace and a stable future for the country and the Horn of Africa region.
