The United Nations said it regretted that the political talks between the Somali parties had ended inconclusively, despite the resumption of talks between 13 and 15 May.
A statement issued by the UN Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) commended the parties for resuming the talks, and thanked international partners for their role in supporting the meetings.
UNTMIS said it regretted that the outstanding differences had not yet been resolved, but noted that the parties had shown determination to continue the talks and to seek a lasting and mutually agreed solution.
The UN mission said Somalia was entering a transitional period, and called on the Federal Government of Somalia to prioritize inclusive consultations with all political stakeholders, in order to find an electoral process that could be implemented and unite the Somali people.
UNTMIS also called on Somalis to cooperate in addressing the dire humanitarian situation and security threat posed by terrorist attacks.
The United Nations finally called for restraint and for avoiding actions that could further fuel political divisions, saying it stood ready to continue supporting efforts to resolve differences between Somalia’s political leaders.
