The Banadir Regional Administration has issued new decisions that temporarily affect land reform activities in the capital city of Mogadishu, following strong complaints from residents in some districts of the city.
The Banadir Regional Administration Spokesperson, Saleh Dheere, who held a press conference in Mogadishu, read to the media official decisions issued by the Office of the Governor of Banadir Region, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab).
These decisions were said to have come in implementation of the order of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, with special consideration given to public complaints related to land allocation and reform activities in the capital.
The spokesman revealed that the Circular issued by the Office of the Mayor of Mogadishu temporarily suspended all implementation, clearing and opening of roads in the capital’s lands, and the Banadir Regional Police General Command was ordered to immediately implement this decision.
The Speaker also noted that a fact-finding committee consisting of land experts, lawyers, religious scholars and members of civil society has been appointed, tasked with thoroughly investigating the complaints of the public and the documents they have.
The Speaker said that the committee will directly interview the complainants, and will prepare a comprehensive report that will be submitted to the Mayor of Mogadishu, so that official administrative decisions can be made on the current situation.
The committee is led by Dr. Hassan Mohamed Omar (Chairman), while other members include Dr. Abdishakur Ibrahim Abdi, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Omar, Eng. Omar Ali Geedi, Sheikh Yusuf Tuur Xume, Sheikh Adan Macalin Abuukar Sheikh Suufi Yare, Mahmoud Abdilbari Sheikh Ibrahim, Dr. Faadumo Mohamed Ali, and Mohamed Abdullahi Abuubakar, who is the secretary of the committee.
“The Banadir Regional Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, has said that a plan will be accelerated to provide land, construction and resettlement to displaced people and those affected by public land reform projects in Mogadishu.” said spokesman Saleh
The spokesman finally noted that the Banadir Regional Administration is ready to respond to public complaints, noting that special priority is also being given to the development and reconstruction of the capital Mogadishu, which he said is undergoing a “significant recovery phase.”
