Abdullahi Mohamed Nur, a politician who has been a close supporter of the Federal Government of Somalia and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has announced that he has resigned from his position as the President’s advisor.
In a statement posted on social media, Abdullahi said that his decision to resign came after he and the President disagreed on the country’s political situation and the direction of the transition.
He noted that the disagreement was based on political issues that he believes could lead to political and security instability.
“Today, on April 26, 2026, I have resigned from the position of Senior Advisor to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. I have made this decision considering the challenges and difficult political situations in the country, which could lead to political and security instability,” the politician said in his statement.
Also, Abdullahi Mohamed Nur pointed out that the term of office of the Federal Government institutions ends on May 15, 2026, saying that there is a need to urgently address a political solution that can unite the various parties to avoid a future crisis.
His resignation comes at a time when the country is facing political tensions related to elections and the future of governance. Previously, MP Abdirahman Odawaa, who was the Secretary of the President’s JSP Party, and Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, who previously served as the Commander of NISA and was a strong supporter of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s policies, have left the President’s side.
