Somalia has warmly welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step that reflects efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen regional and international peace and security.

A statement from the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the role of the United States in promoting restraint and dialogue, while also praising Iran for supporting a diplomatic path that could lead to lasting stability.

Somalia also expressed its special appreciation for countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt, which were said to have played a prominent role in the mediation efforts that led to the agreement.

The Somali government noted that the stability of the Red Sea and the wider Gulf region is directly linked to the country’s interests, stressing the importance of fully implementing and respecting the ceasefire agreement.

It also called for continued fruitful discussions to reach a lasting solution, noting that the security of maritime routes and the flow of international trade are essential to regional and global economic stability.

Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes, respect for the sovereignty of states, and the important role of diplomacy in addressing international crises, underlining the importance of respecting the principles of the United Nations.

The government said that the ceasefire was not seen as a finality, but rather as an important foundation and a stepping stone to building a lasting peace based on dialogue, mutual respect and shared responsibility.

Somalia finally stated its readiness to support international efforts to strengthen peace, reduce tensions, and promote regional stability.
