The President of the Northeastern State of Somalia, Abdikadir Ahmed Ali Firdhiye, said that his administration fully supports the completion and amendment of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
President Firdhiye also called for the acceleration of the implementation of one person, one vote elections, stressing that political disputes should be resolved through dialogue.
In a speech at the opening of the second session of the Northeastern House of Representatives, he said that Somalia is at a stage that requires stability, unity and the strengthening of constitutional institutions.
“The Northeastern State calls for the acceleration of the one person, one vote electoral process. We also call for the political deadlock to be resolved through dialogue,” said President Firdhiye.
He noted that the Northeastern State will play a leading role in protecting the federal system, the unity of the country and cooperation between the federal government and international partners.
He said his administration had moved beyond periods of uncertainty and disunity, and had moved to a leadership with functioning institutions and a unified vision.
Firdhiye said that during his trip to Mogadishu, he met with representatives of the international community, including the European Union and the United Nations, with whom he discussed the vision of the Northeast and development needs, noting that the meetings were successful and opened doors to new cooperation.
