The Federal Government has made serious allegations against officials, including the President of the South West State, Abdiasis Laftagareen, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the South West State, Ali Said Fiqi, of indirectly supporting or encouraging the Al-Shabaab group, although the Ministry has not presented detailed evidence to prove this.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is aware that the former leader of the South West State, Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed (Lafta Gareen), and the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ali Said Faqi, have direct links with the Khawarij group. In implementing agreements they entered into with them, they today spread false news against international friends who support the National Army, and at the same time defend the Khawarij militias that were defeated in the war,” the statement from the Somali Ministry of Information said.
The Federal Government of Somalia also strongly condemned and denied the alleged actions and statements of these individuals, vowing to hold them and anyone else involved in such terrorist acts accountable.
On the other hand, the Federal Government of Somalia announced that a planned operation carried out by the National Security Forces in areas of Bay Region targeted members of the Al-Shabaab group.
According to a press release from the Somali Ministry of Information, the operation took place on March 29, 2026, and more than 20 members of the group were killed, including key leaders.
The ministry also stated in its statement that the operation destroyed positions and equipment used by the group.
The press release noted that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist groups and ensure overall security in the country.
The Federal Government has finally called on the Somali people to cooperate with security agencies and avoid anything that could help terrorist groups, promising to further strengthen the fight against Al-Shabaab.
