Iran has threatened to target key energy and water infrastructure in the Gulf if the United States carries out a plan to attack its power grid. The threat has escalated tensions in the Middle East.

The move comes after US President Donald Trump gave Tehran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, warning that if it fails to do so, Iran’s power industry will be targeted.

An Iranian military spokesman said that if its energy infrastructure is attacked, it will directly target power plants, water treatment plants and technology systems of the US and its allies in the region. He added that any action against Iran would be met with a heavy and irreversible response.

Most Gulf countries rely on seawater desalination plants for drinking water, making this infrastructure vulnerable. Experts warn that any attack on these facilities could cause a widespread humanitarian crisis affecting millions of people.

Meanwhile, the war between Iran and Israel continues, with reports of Iranian missile attacks on Israel, while Israel has carried out airstrikes in Tehran, targeting military facilities.

Although Iran has said the waterway is open to other countries, it has indicated that it will not allow countries it considers its enemies to use it normally.
