Tensions are high in the Gulf region after Iran launched missile attacks on several neighboring countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The Qatari government said the attacks on the main gas processing facility in Ras Laffan caused extensive damage. QatarEnergy also confirmed that several natural gas processing facilities were affected by the attacks in the early hours of today. Despite the extensive damage, no casualties were reported.
Qatar also ordered the immediate withdrawal of Iranian security and military officials in the country.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates suspended work on the Habshan gas facility in Abu Dhabi, while Saudi Arabia said two oil refineries were targeted. Riyadh has made it clear that its previous trust in Iran has now been completely lost.
The attacks follow a series of Israeli strikes inside Iran, including on military bases and gas fields such as South Pars. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that the conflict could have uncontrollable consequences that could affect the entire world.
Also, retaliatory strikes by Iran on Israel have killed four people in Tel Aviv and the West Bank.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, spoke strongly about the situation, saying that the Gulf states’ patience is not unlimited. He noted that the countries have the military capacity to respond if necessary.
“The patience shown is not unlimited,” the minister said, calling on Iran to urgently reconsider its actions and stop its attacks on its neighbors.
