The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces, supported by international partners, carried out a planned operation in Tardo area of Hiran region late yesterday afternoon.
A press release from the NISA Command stated that the operation killed up to nine Al-Shabaab members who were stationed at a checkpoint belonging to the group in Tardo area.
The operation also destroyed a checkpoint where the group was said to have been extorting money from public transport using the road.
“This operation came after receiving reliable intelligence information indicating that the Khawarij militia had set up an illegal checkpoint there, and were planning to extort money from public vehicles. The operation, which was successfully completed, thwarted the Khawarij’s intentions,” the statement from the NISA Command said.
The NISA press release also stated that the National Security Agency is committed to targeting Al-Shabaab members who are engaged in harassing the Somali people everywhere.
