Former Somali Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse Ali accused the Puntland administration of using Bosaso airport as a stopover point for planes flying regularly from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Libya and Sudan.

Abdisaid said that these flights were not regular commercial flights, but were planned to deliver weapons to the Sudanese RSF, who are accused of committing massacres in the town of Al-Fasher and other areas in the Darfur region.

He pointed out that some of these planes were flying over Somali airspace or stopped at airports in the country, especially in Bosaso, which he said could lead to international accusations and scandal if true.

“If the Somali government or a regional administration in the country gave permission for these flights, it would be a grave irresponsibility or direct participation in supporting a force accused of war crimes,” said the former Foreign Minister.

Abdisaid called for an independent investigation to determine who authorized these flights, and to verify all cargo flights that have flown through Somali airspace since mid-2025.

He warned the Somali government that if it is proven that the country is involved in arms trafficking, it could face international sanctions, economic penalties, and loss of international credibility.
