Further reports have emerged of a major attack by Al-Shabaab militants on a base of Federal and South West government forces in the Barujed area on the outskirts of Baidoa city, the capital of Bay region.
The group reportedly launched a bomb attack, followed by a fierce battle between Al-Shabaab militants and allied forces in the Barujed area of Baidoa airport.
Sources in the area told local media that the battle lasted for several hours, with both sides using various types of weapons.
The number of casualties from last night’s battle in the Barujed area, one of the most heavily guarded areas in Baidoa, the temporary capital of South West, is still not officially known.
However, government and South West forces thwarted the attack and the group’s desire to seize this strategic area on the outskirts of Baidoa.
Finally, Al-Shabaab has repeatedly carried out heavy attacks using suicide bombings and face-to-face attacks in the Barujed area, which the group is keen to take over, but the group has not yet succeeded in its ambitions.
