The list of MPs for the Northeastern Somali administration was officially announced last night, following a dispute over the credibility of the verification and approval committee appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia.
The number of MPs announced last night reached 83 MPs, making the Northeastern Somali administration one of the administrations with the most MPs in the Parliament.
The new parliament is divided into two regions and Buuhoodle district. Sool region received 30 MPs in the new parliament, Sanaag region received 37 MPs, while Buuhoodle district in Togdheer received 16 MPs.
The selected list is mostly young people who are new to politics. It also includes famous social media journalists.
The new MPs are scheduled to be sworn in today, and they will then elect a temporary chairman from among themselves to continue working until a permanent chairman is elected.
No one from the presidential candidates has yet commented on the announcement of the parliamentary list. Opposition politicians have previously challenged the committee responsible for vetting and approving members of parliament.
