Turkish President Says He Supports Somalia in Fighting ISIS and Al-Shabaab.

The Turkish Presidency announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and discussed the most important issues in the fight against terrorist groups in Somalia.

According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency published on X, the two Presidents, during their phone call, agreed on the importance of strengthening Turkey-Somalia relations.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated the Turkish Government and People on the fruitful results of the peace and dialogue efforts regarding the PKK, praising the active role of the Turkish government in supporting the people and government of Somalia.

For his part, President Erdoğan told his Somali counterpart that Turkey supports Somalia in its democratic development goals, and said that they will continue to support Somalia in the fight against terrorism, especially in the fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS.

Erdogan added that Turkey will continue to support Somalia in the fields of energy and fisheries, and that cooperation in these areas is a source of hope for his government.

Finally, President Erdogan congratulated the President of Somalia on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, which falls next week.
