The Federal Government of Somalia has handed over armoured combat vehicles and other military equipment to the African Union.
The Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Abdullahi Mohamed Warfaa, received the vehicles and other equipment in Douala, Cameroon, from a team representing the African Union’s Continental Logistics Base (CLB).
The equipment received by Somalia includes armoured vehicles, bulletproof helmets and vests, a military transport vehicle, fuel and water tankers, engines, and medical supplies, which are intended to strengthen Somalia’s security and stability infrastructure.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the African Union for its continued valuable support, which strengthens regional security, develops government institutions, enhances efforts to combat terrorism, and ensures a shared vision based on sustainable stability, resilience and long-term development that benefits the entire African continent,” said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The armored vehicles and other important equipment transferred by the African Union to Somalia are arriving, as the new Chairperson of the African Union, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, recently made his first visit to Somalia.
